After you created a template, or if there are WBS templates available in your company, you can use them. Figure 6.10 shows an example of how to start creating a WBS based on an existing template using software.
WBS CORPORATE STANDARDS OR GUIDELINES
You can use corporate standards or guidelines to help you create a WBS. A corporate or organizational standard is a “set of principles for constructing a WBS and might include a format, numbering scheme, naming convention, or required elements”10.
They are often used in organizations that achieved a certain level of project management maturity. When a project or organization doesn't have a WBS corporate standard, the Practice Standard for WBS is a good reference.
The standards and guidelines help to ensure consistency across WBS in the organization. For example, they could present guides like:
